The Rock’s Charity of Choice is revealed
The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity have been announced as The Rock’s partner Charity of Choice for the next twelve months. The Rock in Bury have been on the lookout for a local charity to partner with and nominations were open to local charities to put themselves forward. Six local charities were then shortlisted and it was put to a public vote online to choose a winner. A staggering 1482 people voted over a two week period.
The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity exists to provide help and support for families living with childhood brain tumours and post-operative complications. The charity was set up by Joshua and his mum Dawn following a brain tumour that left Josh with serious post-operative complications from the age of 3. Sadly Joshua passed away aged 14 in November 2014, however Dawn and other family members have maintained the commitment to his charity and tirelessly fundraised, along with their many charity supporters, to help other families going through similar struggles.
Dawn Fidler, Joshua’s Mum and founder of the charity said: “We are so so proud to have been chosen as The Rock’s Charity of Choice partner! It’s going to be an amazing opportunity for Josh’s Charity and we are really excited to be working with the team at The Rock. I broke down when Tower FM told me that we had won, it’s massive to me and Josh’s dad Colin on a personal level as we have so many happy memories of times with Josh at The Rock shopping and having fun. It’s amazing to be able to continue his legacy helping others, thank you to everyone who voted and who continues to support us in our work.”
The Rock plan to set a fundraising target and organise a series of events throughout the year to raise money and awareness for The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.
Linzi Atkinson, marketing and tenant liaison manager at The Rock commented: “We are delighted to have found our partner charity for the next year and look forward to working with The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity. This is such a great local charity and we feel privileged to be working with an organisation who have for years helped other families despite struggles of their own. The charity has created a real legacy for Josh and we are honoured to be able to help in any way that we can.”
