Changing Place given the thumbs up at the new Bury Together Centre!
We had a fantastic visit along with my helpers Eisa and Josh, to Bury Together (at the old Brandleshome library). We attended to check out their new changing facilities and we weren’t disappointed – it got a great big thumbs up from all of us!
I know first-hand how having the right changing facilities can make such a difference to whether you go out or simply stay at home. As Josh got older and bigger, he didn’t fit onto the baby-sized changing benches, so we used to have to wedge his buggy underneath, so it doesn’t snap and struggle, we had to do that or change Josh on a dirty toilet floor, which is obviously just not good enough. On a few occasions I found I didn’t have the strength to lift him back up, so had to call on a member of the public to help. This was embarrassing for Josh. Like any young boy, he valued his privacy and his dignity.
We came across the Changing Places campaign as we launched our charity and decided to get in touch because we share such similar aim. Our dream would be for a changing places toilet in every area and that decision-makers and businesses will work with groups and campaigners like ours to raise money and to raise awareness. This dream is slowly being realised and it’s thanks to the team at Bury Together that we now have a great Changing Place here for immediate use. When you are next in Bury Together go and check it out! Then shout about it on social media and help us raise awareness of this much needed resource.
