BURY2GETHER & Elms Bank School Create Accessible Toilets At Pride Of Bury Awards
We are so grateful for the generosity of local organisations who have worked together to bring accessible changing facilities to the Pride of Bury Awards.
BURY2GETHER generously donated a hoist and Elms Bank Specialist Arts College – Josh’s High School, kindly allowed the use of their changing table, all of which were brought to The Village Hotel Bury and set up in a dedicated ground floor room – allowing for easy access. The facilities made all the difference on the night.
The Awards evening was a huge success and in no small part due to the availability of suitable changing facilities for families with children what have complex needs. As a Charity we know first hand this makes all the difference for families allowing them the chance to attend an event, rather than simply having to stay at home.
One of the many challenges faced by families with children with complex needs is that changing facilities are often inadequate. Without the right facilities families often have to use the toilet floors to change their children. The picture below shows SuperJosh himself being changed on a toilet floor as there were no suitable facilities available. We believe this is unacceptable and the reason why we camapign for better changing facilities through our work with Changing Places.
